Buy or DIY: Not Your Grandma’s Home Accessories

I have a standing date with my boyfriend Michael every Friday at 5pm to go check out what’s new and on sale in the yarn section. I’m possibly borderline obsessed with anything and everything fiber arts related. From crocheted throw blankets to cross-stitched wall art, adding things to my space that I’ve made with my own two hands has been an incredibly enjoyable way to add my own personality to my place.

If you don’t think you’re crafty enough for these, my biggest piece of advice is to just try it out, and then try it again until you get it right. I’ve found a lot of joy displaying pieces that I’ve made with my own two hands in my home and I believe in you!

But, I get it. Sometimes you just want the easy way out. So I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite artists who are amazing at creating these pieces so that you can DIY it or Buy it.

I love the modern twist on these old home pastimes and can’t wait to see what you make for your own place.

Sassy Needlepoint Pillows

I’ve been a huge fan of cross-stitch since the age of eight and I think needlepoint is cross-stitching’s grown up, sophisticated bad-a sister and I’m here for it…especially when there are so many sassy patterns to choose from.

Lycette Designs has some really fun patterns (I just bought one to work on over quarantine and I can’t wait to get my kit!)

Follow their Instagram stories to see what kits they have in stock and call to order!

Crochet Knot Pillow

I promise this one is easier than it looks! If you’ve mastered the regular ole’ single crochet stitch you’ll be a pro at this. If not, here’s a great tutorial.

I totally recommend this project for beginner crocheters - it’s fun and the outcome is so fun.

Anthropologie Inspired Throw

Let’s have a moment of silence for how cute the pom poms on this throw are.

I am a HUGE fan of Daisy Farm Crafts. They have every baby blanket pattern and throw blanket pattern I’ll ever want to crochet and all of their patterns are free.

The Modern Low Tide Crochet Throw is one of my favorites.
