Project Linnwood Before & After

The day I launched my business I was terrified. If you watched my Instagram stories from that week (*cough* I hope you don’t remember them) you know I was stiff as a board and very, well, proper? AKA not my usual self. I consider myself a fun gal, and nervous Nancy Ashlin was worried no one would giving a flying flip about hiring her to help them decorate a room or two.

As luck would have it, I have amazing friends, and whether they heard the nervousness in my voice in between trying to sound like I knew what I was talking about, or just because they are nice, a few friends reached out to me to decorate their rooms. And not to get too corny, but I’ll be forever in their debt for helping me launch this dream of mine.

My friend McKinley was a few months pregnant and reached out to me to help design her baby boy’s nursery! She has a very clean, light and airy style and wanted to  bring that same style into the nursery. Since she lives in Georgia (and I don’t), this project was completely remote! Mick and her husband were troopers to get through a number of DIYs to completely transform the room.

Before

A few pics of the original room below! A bright room, grayish walls, and good bones. McKinley had ample storage space in her closet, wanted a place for books, needed some extra lighting, a changing table and wanted to change the walls up a bit.

Process

To neutralize the room a bit more, we painted the room a warm white white. Then, to add some fun detail to the wall, we added a neutral and minimal wallpaper for some texture. Then, we added wainscoting on the lower 3rd of the wall (alll the way around the whole room). If you can believe it, McKinley and her husband wainscoted the whole thing without a professional’s help (It looks like they hired a pro) and I was so impressed.

Going in, we had a full vision of what the space would look like at the end. During the process, McKinley decided to add a few pieces and accessories from the shopping list we had build to her baby registry. We were so excited when a few people bought things off of the list!

Paint & wallpaper went up first! We measured how much wallpaper we would need on the upper 2/3rds of the wall to save some money on paper instead of wallpapering the whole thing. Wallpapering before the wainscoting helped give the room a very cl…

After the wainscoting was up, we added an extra touch of light with a couple of sconces to one of the walls. At first, we were thinking about doing a table lamp, but were worried about baby boy knocking it over when he starts to crawl. Instead, we opted for sconces near the reading nook to allow for some additional and subtle light in the room.

After

McKinley loves natural elements, and I really wanted to bring a few into the room in a subtle way. We opted for a jute pouf, wooden bead curtain ties, mud cloth pillows, wooden shelves, rattan hooks, and linen curtains to make the space feel cozy and comfortable.
